Basic, Pro, or Business? How to Pick the Right illico Book Plan

August 2026 · 3 min read

Three paid plans is enough to make anyone pause before signing up. The good news: the decision usually comes down to one or two questions about how you actually work, not a feature-by-feature comparison chart.

Start With: Do You Need Real Estate or a Team?

If the answer to both is no, Basic is genuinely enough — not a stripped-down starter tier you'll outgrow in a month. Unlimited transactions, invoicing, inventory, clients, budgets, recurring entries, tax reports, and CSV export, all included. A huge share of freelancers and single-owner businesses never need anything beyond this.

When Pro Actually Earns Its Higher Price

Two specific triggers move people to Pro, and it's rarely anything else:

If neither applies to you, Pro's other additions — PDF export, full financial reports — are nice, but Basic likely already covers what you actually need day to day.

Business Is a Different Question Entirely

Business isn't "Pro but more expensive" — it answers a completely different question: do you run more than one business? If you don't, nothing about Business applies to you, and Pro or Basic remains the right fit no matter how much revenue you do.

If you do — a main business plus a side venture, a couple of rental properties run as a separate entity, an agency and a personal brand — Business lets you manage up to three of them from one login, with nine total team seats to split across them (three per business) and priority support when something needs a faster answer.

A Quick Way to Decide

You're Not Locked In

Every paid plan starts with a 3-month free trial, no card required. You can upgrade, downgrade, or cancel at any time — moving from Basic to Pro because you just picked up a rental property, or from Pro to Business because that side project became a second real business, doesn't cost you your history. Everything carries over.
